The service was excellent, and they had a great selection of Japanese IPAs and Pale Ales! The gem lettuce salad and arancini were delicious. We ended with four yakitori per person, which had a deep umami flavor and a satisfying chicken texture. I gave 4 stars due to the high noise level and small indoor tables.

Sanjusan in Minneapolis is a culinary treasure trove that deserves every bit of praise it receives. From the moment you step through the door, you're transported into a world of exquisite flavors and cozy ambiance. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sanjusan for a date night, and it exceeded all expectations. The Squid Ink Pappardelle was a revelation, perfectly cooked pasta infused with the deep, savory flavors of the sea. Pairing it with the Isaac Becker pizza was a stroke of genius - each bite was a symphony of flavors that danced on my palate. But the delights didn't stop there. The assortment of yakitori was a delightful journey through various grilled skewers, each one bursting with flavor and perfectly cooked to tender perfection. And let's not forget the star of the show - the Hana Hachi cocktail. Sipping on this expertly crafted concoction was like savoring a piece of art in a glass, with its delicate balance of sweetness and sophistication. The intimate vibe of the restaurant only added to the experience. It's small and cozy, making it the perfect setting for a romantic evening with that special someone. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our dining experience was nothing short of perfection. In summary, Sanjusan is a gem of a restaurant that I can't recommend highly enough. Whether you're looking for a romantic date night spot or simply want to treat yourself to an unforgettable dining experience, this is the place to be. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

Oh Sanjusan - where Japanese & Italian merge to create an umami of flavors for your palate. My friend booked us a few days in advance when we visited and I'm so glad she did. It was amazing, and unlike any other cuisine I've had. The way the chef is able to balance the flavors where Japanese notes of miso, nor can be tasted with layers of Italian goodness is amazing. I enjoyed the arancini fried and topped with enoki and ginger and served over a poached egg. Probably my fav thing! I also liked the mentaiko lumache pasta which had pistachio, toasted basil, and nori. I could skip on the crudo next time and focus on another pasta dish or app. We all got the drink Hana hachi would recommend it was a good cocktail curated with mezcal and yuzu. Overall service was great and they had a nice playlist going through dinner. Would def recommend this experience! Can't wait to come back when I'm in town.

Food: the pesto pizza was incredible just like the reviews here said. The crab pasta wasn't my favorite because it was too oily tasting with not enough flavor. Seemed like a missed opportunity to execute a balanced creamy sauce for this dish. Service: our server was responsive and patient. He was relaxed and helpful when it came to recommending mixed drinks or getting you something off the menu bc you're picky. Ambiance: bouj in the best way. I prefer the seating upstairs for a large dinner party or smaller intimate table. Overall I would come back for their gimlet & pizza!

We were walking on the street to grab a small plate, and this restaurant was calling us in. Window seating, white modern decorations with a nice menu made us walk into the restaurant. We sat immediately, and people were friendly. I got duck tataki and a skin skewer. My partner got thigh and breast skewers. Because we ordered individually his skewers and mine came in different plates. Which was perfect because I didn't wanna share my seasoning or dipping sauce lol Every dish was prepared & cooked perfectly. So yummy. I wouldn't mind having the skin a little bit more crispy. However, I enjoyed what I got anyway. My eyes are still on squid ink pappardelle. I hope they will keep it on their menu until I come back to Minneapolis :) I also loved how they brought the check lol it's super cute

Stopped by here when they opened to get a drink and apps as we were waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. Hadn't been here in a while and figured this was a good way to kill time before our table was ready. Sat at the bar, and ordered a couple of drink and couple of apps. I got a beer and we also got the Kishu. The Kishu was very tasty and the beer was good. Also ordered the Hiramasa Crudo and the Arancini. The crudo was delectable. The fish was fresh and bright flavors and just a little bot of heat. Very very good. The arancini was also very good. nice ad crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. the egg cooked perfectly and the furikake giving it a little added flavor and crisp. It was perfect for what we were looking for. Just a little pick me up before dinner. Great to revisit this place and see it's the same quality and attention to detail that we encountered the first time.

This is my husband and I's all time favorite restaurant in the twin cities. It's our go to for special occasions. It's beautiful and calming inside, a smallish intimate space, and the servers are always excellent and highly professional but still very attentive to your needs. I have never been disappointed with any of the food we have gotten here. The pizzas have the best crust and flavor. Most dishes are perfect to share with another person so usually we get one pizza and one pasta dish to share. My favorites to order: - drink: Kosho Kola (zero proof), pictured below - pizza: miso pesto, pictured below - pasta: so far we have switched it up each time and haven't been disappointed with any of them They do also have seasonal desserts and the ones we had recently were delectable! I dream about them.
